Friday at Speaker Ban Hearings in Raleigh

The quick passage of the Speaker Ban Law surprised Friday at first, but he immediately began work on stopping it. Because of its strong political support, however, he did not ask for an outright repeal but instead asked the legislature to establish a study commission. The commission held televised public hearings in 1965, after which a compromise bill returned control over speakers to campus trustees.
