One of the earliest Asian American students at UNC (and possibly the first) was Albert Bunker, son of Chang Bunker, one of the famous conjoined twins from Siam (now Thailand). Known widely as the "Siamese Twins," the Bunkers had retired to North Carolina, where they married sisters and had many children. Albert Bunker, one of Chang Bunker's sons, was a student at UNC from 1878-1880.
