Opening the University

The trustees called for the university to open in January 1795. They fixed a tuition rate, set the salary for professors, and recommended what the students should eat and drink. A number of trustees donated books to form the first university library. They also set out a daily schedule for students that began with prayers at sunrise and ended with a curfew at eight every evening. All students were required to attend religious services on Sunday.
