After World War II, Graham also emerged as a major spokesman for improved race relations. He called for the end of racial discrimination but preferred religious and political persuasion over legal enforcement. In 1946, President Harry Truman appointed Graham to the Committee on Civil Rights, which wrote a path-breaking report calling for racial equality.
