Paul Dickson testifies at the Britt Commission

Paul Dickson was elected student body president at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the spring of 1965. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and had served in Vietnam in 1962. His tenure as student body president was indelibly marked by the Speaker Ban Law. He was a leader of student efforts to resist the law and worked closely with Friday to find a solution. Dickson graduated from UNC in 1966 with a degree in political science. He remained active in politics after his graduation, working on James B. Hunt's campaign for lieutenant governor in 1972. That same year, Dickson died in an automobile accident in Fayetteville.
