Chapman Hall Wave Tank
The Chapman Hall fluids lab, which is shared by the departments of Mathematics and Marine Sciences, opened in 2007. In 2010, a wave tank was installed in the lab, increasing the university's ability to research a wide variety of water-related phenomena, including erosion patterns, the effects of oil spills, and the energy potential of water. The tank is 120 feet long, and holds up to 13,500 gallons. The water is filtered and reused in the tank, limiting its impact on campus water usage. In the picture above, students observe the motion of the water in the wave tank.
