William MacNider (1881-1951)

Venable and his successors began hiring medical school faculty who excelled at research. One important faculty member was William MacNider, an expert on kidney disease and aging. A 1902 graduate of the Raleigh medical department, he taught at the Chapel Hill campus until his retirement in 1950 and was honored as one of the first five Kenan professors.
