Kimowan McLain, professor of art at UNC-Chapel Hill, comes from the Cold Lake First Nations, a Cree Indian reservation in Western Canada. His works typically employ a mix of photography, drawing, and found objects to create the impression of real people and objects in unreal surroundings. He has served on both the Chapel Hill and UNC Public Arts Commissions, and provided guidance to the University throughout its ongoing "renaissance" of public art in the last few years.
