Birds

Most people who stroll past the Hanes Art Center don't notice the birds perched on the roof. Those who do spot them often do not realize that the same birds are there, day or night, rain or shine. They are in fact sculptures, about five inches tall, and resemble pigeons. The artist, MFA alumnus Kyle Sirman '04, told theChapel Hill Herald in March 2004 that although most people may pass by without noticing, he hopes that those who do discover the birds will be delighted. "We move through life every day too busy to notice the beauty in the world around us," he said. This piece "is a comment on that hectic pace of life and a hope that people will eventually take notice."
