Carolina Union "Cubes"

Tall (8 feet x 4 feet) wood cubes advertising student events stand in strategic campus locations: two outside the Carolina Union near the Pit, and two on Polk Place behind the YMCA. Any official student group can paint a cube side (with materials supplied by the Student Union) to advertise their upcoming event(s). Students are honor-bound not to advertise more than ten days in advance or paint over another group's side until its event has passed. By requiring students to hand-paint their messages—flyers, posters, and other predesigned media are forbidden—the cubes effectively transcend mere advertising to become a site for democratic, ever-changing artistic expressions.
