Harry Gooder
English-born Harry Gooder earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a doctorate in Biochemistry from the University of Leeds . Before coming to UNC in 1961, Gooder taught at Harvard University and the Central Public Health Laboratory of the Medical Research Council in London . At Chapel Hill, he joined the Department of Microbiology and Immunology in the School of Medicine. From 1989 to 1991, he was chair of the faculty. He won UNC’s Thomas Jefferson Award in 1994.
