Thomas Person (1733-1800) and Person Hall

Person Hall, completed in 1798, served as the university's first chapel. Brigadier General Thomas Person, a wealthy planter and early supporter of the university, presented the university with over one thousand silver dollars to complete this chapel. After Old East residence hall, this is the second oldest state university building in the U.S.
