Completed in 2001, this building houses the university’s indoor track facility and bears the name of Eddie Smith, a businessman and supporter of the university. Edward C. (Eddie) Smith was the founder of National Wholesale Company, a hosiery and apparel mail order business. A native of Lexington, Smith, Sr., established scholarships for undergraduates in 1992. His son Edward C. (Eddie) Smith donated the funds for this building in honor of his father. The younger Smith is a 1965 Carolina graduate and chairman and chief executive of Grady-White Boats in Greenville, a leading manufacturer of sport fishing boats.
